Hotels with a kettle in the room

If you care about coffee, a kettle is more useful than any pod machine. Hot water plus something that weighs less than a paperback gives you far better coffee than a capsule ever will.

How it works

Electric kettles are standard in guest rooms across the UK, Ireland, most of Europe, Japan, and much of Asia and Australasia. They are markedly less common in the United States, where a pod brewer is the norm instead.

A kettle is what makes bringing your own equipment worthwhile. An AeroPress Go, a collapsible pour-over cone, or even a bag of steeped coffee needs nothing else.

Where we have confirmed a kettle, the hotel page says so and suggests what to pack for it.

What to bring

  • An AeroPress Go, which packs its own cup and makes genuinely excellent coffee.
  • A collapsible pour-over cone and a few paper filters — the lightest real brewer there is.
  • Steeped coffee bags or specialty instant, if you want to carry nothing but the coffee.
