About RoomBrew

RoomBrew answers one narrow, genuinely useful question: what is the coffee situation at this hotel?

The problem

Booking sites list “coffee maker” as an amenity and stop there. That single checkbox covers a Nespresso machine, a Keurig, a four-cup drip brewer with a stale packet of grounds, and a kettle with a sachet of instant — four completely different mornings, and four different answers to what you should pack.

It also goes out of date silently. Hotels change coffee suppliers, remove machines during refurbishments, and quietly drop them altogether. Nothing on a booking page tells you when that listing was last true.

What we do

For each hotel we try to establish, and keep current:

  • Whether there is a coffee maker in a standard room
  • What machine it is, and what format it takes
  • What coffee is supplied, and whether it is complimentary
  • Whether there is a kettle — which changes everything for anyone who brings their own
  • Coffee elsewhere on the property: lobby, breakfast, lounge, cafés
  • How room types differ, where we can establish it
  • When the setup last changed, and when anyone last checked

Alongside that, Coffee Anywhere covers what to do about whatever you find — portable brewers, hotel kettles, capsule compatibility, voltage, and getting coffee gear through airport security.

How it is built

Hotel identity comes from OpenStreetMap. Coffee facts come from an automated research engine that reads hotels’ own pages, extracts only what they literally say, and stores every claim against the sentence and the date it came from. Travellers can confirm or correct any of it.

The research methodology page explains all of it in detail, including what we are bad at.

What we will not do

  • Invent a hotel, or a fact about one, to fill a gap.
  • Infer a machine from a hotel’s brand or class.
  • Present old information as current.
  • Work around a site that has declined automated access.

The cost of these rules is a database with a lot of honest blanks in it. That is the intended trade.
