Hotels with drip coffee makers

The small filter brewer with a glass carafe is the most forgiving in-room machine there is, because it takes whatever coffee you put in it.

How it works

A drip brewer heats water and passes it through a basket of ground coffee. The hotel normally supplies pre-filled paper packets, which are usually the weakest part of the arrangement.

Because the basket takes loose grounds, you can simply bring your own coffee and a filter. No proprietary format, no compatibility question.

These machines are most common in North American mid-range and extended-stay properties.

What to bring

  • Pre-ground coffee in a small resealable bag — around 10g per cup.
  • A couple of basket filters, in case the room only stocks pre-filled packets.
