Hotels with Keurig coffee makers
The Keurig single-serve brewer is the default in-room coffee maker across much of North America. It is also the easiest setup to improve: the pods are standardised, sold everywhere, and weigh nothing.
How it works
A Keurig punctures a sealed plastic K-Cup pod and forces hot water through it. The result is fast and consistent, and entirely determined by the pod — which is why the hotel’s house pod is usually the weak link rather than the machine.
Almost every K-Cup on the market fits almost every Keurig brewer, so bringing four pods of coffee you actually like is the single highest-return thing you can pack.
Reusable K-Cups — a small refillable basket you fill with your own grounds — work in most but not all hotel brewers. Some in-room models have a fixed holder that will not accept one.
What to bring
- A handful of K-Cup pods in a roast you like. They pack flat and survive being crushed in a bag.
- A reusable K-Cup and your own ground coffee, if you know the machine accepts one.
- Nothing at all — the machine will brew the hotel’s pods perfectly well if you are not fussy.
